The land use plan is one of the most significant documents to be developed for every single local authority. It determines the types of activities that can be accommodated on a given territory as well as land use restrictions with a 12-year perspective depending on the specificities of the definite administrative territory. A successful land use plan is intended to secure the environmental, social and economic efficiency and thus to encourage promotion of sustainable development in the local area attracting new investments.
Today Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are widely used in the land use planning and thus contribute to the improvement of quality and facets of these plans. Since 2002, a number of land use plans and other development planning documents have been developed with the assistance of ELLE experts.
